Warmest Thanks From Women WISE3

The Women Workers In Struggle for Employment, Empowerment, and Emancipation (Women WISE3) would like to express its warmest thanks to all individuals and organizations who participated and showed their full support to its forum launching entitled “Globalisasyon at Militarisasyon: Epekto Nito at Pagkilos ng Kababaihang Manggagawa” and photo exhibit “Kababaihan at Bata sa Sinapupunan ng Globalisasyon” held on August 13, 2008 at the University of the Philippines. The Women WISE3 forum launching and photo exhibit focused on the situation of women workers and families of victims of trade union repression in the context of globalization and prevailing militarization on workplaces and communities near the working areas. The said event was attended by various individuals, groups, and organizations coming from different sectors.

Women WISE3 is one of the newest program of Center for Trade Union and Human Rights (CTUHR). It is a campaign network of families of victims of slain labour activists, women trade union organizers whose lives are under threat, women workers displaced in the exercise of their right to unionize, and women workers who are victims of abuse in their own workplace.

Also part of the launching was a dialogue with the Commission on Human Rights Chair Leila De Lima to seek her intervention in resolving the killings and harassments rife in labor sector. Chairperson De Lima vows to look into the cores of sexual harassments at Bleustar Manufacturing and Marketing Corporation, prohibition of unions in Export Processing Zones, and military harassments against union officers.
